Surprise Proposal Idea

How did this surprise proposal go down? I was super stoked when Tylor reached out to me to schedule a session for “puppy photos” with his girlfriend. It didn’t take long for me to guess there was more to the story. The plan was to tell Nancy we were just going to take some normal family-pup-couple photos, and pop the question near the end. It couldn’t have gone more smoothly. We settled on Hoyt Park in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin for the surprise proposal location. And I had a blast shooting it. If you know anything about me, it’s probably easy for you to see why. This surprise proposal included some of my favorite things: a puppy, an adorable couple, and one of the cutest reactions to a proposal I’ve seen to date. Tylor killed it with the prep, and Nancy killed it with the reaction. Unfortunately for them, Delly (the pup) outshone them both with his adorable face and sweet antics.

Surprise Proposal with Dog

Including your dog in your surprise proposal is always a good idea, in my book. In fact, it’s kind of a must, right? Well, maybe it’s only a must if you have a dog as cute as Delly, here. Not only is he a pretty face, but this pup can run! And jump! And fly! (Okay, well at least he believes he can.) It’s hard to get a cuter surprise proposal idea without a puppy like this one. We spent the first 45 minutes or so exploring Milwaukee’s Hoyt Park, taking lifestyle portraits, and Tylor popped the question on the iconic Hoyt Park bridge. This surprise proposal in Milwaukee is a perfect example of why it’s totally fine to take professional photos any time of the year. There may not have been leaves on the trees, but I love the warmth that comes out in the different brown tones, and the beautiful overcast light that makes everything look so creamy. The reflection of the sky on the calm creek makes for a total zen background, too. And the best part? It’s impossible for any of the surroundings to outshine the love between these two (three!) cuties. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself! I dare you to try not to smile when Tylor gets down on one knee. I couldn’t help but let a massive grin take over my face while it was happening. And I totally didn’t tear up at all. Mm, mm, nope, not one bit… (Ugh, I just never get used to being a surprise proposal photographer! It gets me every single time.)
